TOPIC 10 · Weights and Distribution
Read a Scale Ticket and Weight Distribution
Actual total weight, axle-group readings and vehicle ratings answer different questions, and an acceptable total does not clear every axle group. Follow a loaded combination through reading its ticket, reporting the figures and checking a reweigh after an adjustment.

ONE QUICK QUESTIONThe total is within the planned range, but the drive-axle reading is uncertain. What should you communicate?
Take another look: Measured axle weights, the total and ratings must be checked separately. This exercise does not supply universal limits for every vehicle and route.

Read the scale ticket
Which axle or group does each figure represent?
Scale Ticket磅单
A record issued after a vehicle is weighed, commonly showing vehicle identifiers, weighing time, and axle-group or gross weights; a licensed weighmaster may issue a formal weight certificate. It records that weighing event and is not permission to load, a road permit, or an overweight exemption.
Full entry & related termsSteer Axle转向轴CORE
An axle whose wheels steer the vehicle. Typical highway tractor scale tickets list the front steering axle separately.
Full entry & related termsDrive Axle驱动轴CORE
An axle receiving power to move the vehicle. A scale's drive-axle reading may total a group rather than each individual axle.
Full entry & related termsTrailer Axles挂车轴组CORE
The axles supporting the trailer. A common scale ticket lists their group weight separately, while axle counts and layouts vary.
Full entry & related termsAxle Weight轴重
The weight that a vehicle and its cargo place on the road through one axle or an axle group. A legal gross weight does not prove every axle is legal; axle spacing, tire ratings, state law, route restrictions, and permit conditions can all affect the allowed weight.
Full entry & related termsMeasured weights and ratings
Separate actual weight from rated capability.
Tare Weight空重
The weight of a vehicle or container without the cargo being measured, under stated weighing conditions. Included fuel, people and equipment depend on the record.
Full entry & related termsPayload载荷
The weight of cargo carried; payload capacity in a specification means rated carrying capability. Actual cargo weight and allowable capacity are different questions.
Full entry & related termsGCW Gross Combination Weight组合车实际总重CORE
The actual combined weight of tractor, trailer, occupants, fuel, equipment and cargo at that time, unlike the manufacturer's combination rating.
Full entry & related termsGCWR Gross Combination Weight Rating组合车额定总重CORE
The manufacturer's weight rating for a vehicle combination. It is neither a current scale reading nor the sole legal road-weight limit.
Full entry & related termsGVWR总重额定值
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating: the manufacturer’s loaded-weight rating for a single vehicle, including the vehicle, people, fuel, and cargo. It is not the current scale weight or cargo capacity. Road, axle, and combination-weight limits must be checked separately.
Full entry & related termsAdjustment and verification
Use measured figures to check the result.
Weight Distribution重量分布
How vehicle and cargo weight is distributed across positions and axle groups. Equal total weights can produce different axle readings.
Full entry & related termsSliding Tandems可滑动挂车双轴组
A trailer tandem assembly that can be repositioned along the frame to alter axle location and weight distribution. This may also affect length or spacing compliance.
Full entry & related termsReweigh复磅CORE
A further weighing after an initial weighing, for example to check distribution after a loading adjustment. Commercial scale terms and charges vary.
