Preparing to Drive and Be Inspected
Time rules, duty records, vehicle checks, and inspection results serve different purposes; an ELD display alone cannot establish readiness to drive. Follow one driver from pickup preparation to a roadside inspection to see which records and concerns arise.
Read Mountain and Severe-Weather Notices
Grade signs, weather descriptions and traffic controls convey different information; an old screenshot does not replace current directions. Follow a driver planning a California mountain crossing through checking notices, reading roadside messages and reporting conditions.
Check Truck Routes and Road Limits
Navigation suggestions do not replace checks of truck dimensions, route class, and posted limits. Follow a semitrailer delivery as the driver and dispatch confirm the final miles before departure.
Read Duty and Driving Records
ELD duty statuses, special driving categories, and edits serve different purposes; an annotation cannot erase automatic driving time. Follow a driver reviewing yesterday's record and an unassigned movement.
Communicate and Document an Incident
Scene facts, a police report, and an insurance claim are different records; an unverified cause is not a fault finding. Follow a fictional parking-lot contact as a driver reports what is known to the carrier.
Fuel, Park, and Use Road Services
Fuel payment, parking reservations, and site services have separate conditions; one receipt does not confirm them all. Follow a driver stopping at a truck plaza to fuel and arrange an overnight space.
Recognize Hazmat Marks and Documents
A hazmat identification number, proper shipping name, and hazard class are distinct fields; exceptions and placards depend on the shipment. Follow a driver reviewing a proposed shipping document and referring missing information to qualified staff.
