Separate costs you bear, reimbursable expenses and contract revenue before comparing savings. Calculations and questions below are original teaching examples. Official and operator sources were checked on October 13, 2026; this is not a product recommendation or a savings guarantee.
Official basis: CDTFA’s guide requires quarterly IFTA reporting, using distance, fuel use and eligible tax-paid purchases to establish tax or credit. Purchase location and place of use are different information. Buying in a cheaper state does not remove applicable fuel-tax obligations elsewhere. CDTFA IFTA guide
Handoff checklist: Give jurisdiction-level mileage and fuel receipts to the responsible filer. Check dates, quantities, fuel type and vehicle attribution; resolve missing details from original records rather than inventing them. Card summaries, ELD exports or “sent to the accountant” are not filing confirmations. Establish who files and pays, then retain submission and payment confirmations. Have the filer check eligibility for credits and special fuel-use treatment. IFTA is a tax-reporting system, not a discount product.
Useful phrase: “Have the IFTA return and any payment been submitted, and can I have the confirmations?” / “IFTA 申报和所需付款是否已完成?能否提供确认凭证?”
