How should I check the documents before crossing state lines?

Before leaving California, align the full route, weather, vehicle conditions and credentials with the delivery plan. Official sources were checked on October 13, 2026. The checklists and phrases are original teaching material; specific restrictions, permits and roadside directions still govern the trip.

Official basis: An IRP cab card provides apportioned registration information, including registered weights by member jurisdiction. IFTA concerns fuel-tax credentials and reporting for applicable operations. Qualified IFTA vehicles must carry a valid license copy and display required decals. Confirm any alternative fuel-trip permits before entering the relevant jurisdiction. Neither replaces oversize/overweight permits. DMV IRP guide · CDTFA IFTA guide

Practical checklist: Review driver, vehicle, cargo and route documents for validity, scope and the actual equipment. Include required duty records, insurance/shipping papers and special-cargo documents. “The office is processing it” does not establish that credentials have been issued. For missing documents, equipment changes or a different operation, have the carrier confirm what is required and when departure is permitted. Transmit actual credentials through approved company channels.

Useful phrase: “Please confirm that the credentials and permits are valid for this vehicle, load and full route.” / “请确认这些资格文件和许可适用于这辆车、这批货及整条路线。”
