Overnight closures planned for eastbound SR-78 and SR-905 connectors in San Diego County
Reminder ends ·
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has announced two sets of overnight work in San Diego County. All eastbound State Route 78 (SR-78) lanes at South Rancho Santa Fe Road in San Marcos will close for replacement of weigh-in-motion sensors. Three connectors between State Route 905 (SR-905) and Interstate 5 (I-5) will close for sign work. The schedule below uses California local time.
For eastbound SR-78, the announced detour uses the South Rancho Santa Fe Road off-ramp and the on-ramp of the same name to return eastbound. The official connector detours are:
Eastbound SR-905 to southbound I-5: exit at Beyer Boulevard, continue straight to Dairy Mart Road, and use the I-5 on-ramp.
Northbound I-5 to westbound SR-905: exit at Coronado Avenue, turn left, enter southbound I-5, then take westbound SR-905.
Westbound SR-905 to southbound I-5: take northbound I-5, exit at Coronado Avenue, turn left, and enter southbound I-5.

Temporary reporting and recordkeeping relief for certain dyed diesel uses
On October 21, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced temporary administrative relief for reporting and recordkeeping requirements arising solely from liability under section 4041(a) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC). The liability must arise from taxable uses of dyed diesel during October 1–December 31, 2026.
The relief covers filing Form 720, Quarterly Federal Excise Tax Return, solely for that liability; reporting it on a Form 720 otherwise required for other liabilities; and creating or keeping records solely to substantiate it. The IRS will not assert the relevant civil penalties or additions to tax for failures covered by the announcement.
Covered requirements qualify even if their deadlines fall after year-end. No later catch-up filing, reporting or reconstruction of the covered records is required. Requirements for other excise tax liabilities, other taxes, and independent exemption, credit or refund claims remain in place. California state tax requirements must be checked separately.
